Interlocking & Paver Patios in Mississauga
Interlocking in Mississauga ranges from lakefront patios in Port Credit and Mineola to estate terraces in Lorne Park and family backyards in Erin Mills and Streetsville. A-Z Landscaping builds them all the same way: an engineered base matched to the soil, a photoreal 3D design of your property, a fixed itemized quote and our own in-house crews from excavation to the final sweep of polymeric sand.
Interlocking in Mississauga Starts With Knowing Which Soil You Are Building On
Mississauga is not one soil, and an interlocking contractor who treats it as one will get some of your patio wrong. South of the old Lake Iroquois shoreline, around Mineola, Port Credit and parts of Lorne Park, many lots sit on sandier soils that drain faster but can shift if they are not properly confined and compacted.
Further north, toward Erin Mills, Meadowvale and Streetsville, heavier clay is common, which holds water and is the leading cause of patios that settle and heave. Older lakeshore neighbourhoods also come with decades of fill, old foundations and mature root systems. That is why we start every Mississauga interlock project with a proper site assessment: probing the subgrade, checking how water moves across the lot today, measuring access and locating services.
The base design then follows the soil. On clay we excavate deeper and separate with geotextile; on sandy ground we focus on confinement, compaction and edge restraint. Either way the goal is the same, a patio that is still dead flat and draining correctly long after the warranty expires.

How We Build a Mississauga Interlock Patio That Stays Flat for Decades
The visible paver is only the last few per cent of the work. We excavate to roughly 250 to 300 millimetres for a pedestrian patio, deeper under hot tubs and outdoor kitchens, then proof-roll the subgrade and replace any soft pockets. A woven geotextile goes down to keep native soil out of the stone.
Granular A is placed and compacted in lifts of no more than 100 millimetres, because a thick layer compacted only from the top stays loose in the middle no matter how heavy the plate. The bedding course is clear high-performance bedding stone or coarse concrete sand, never limestone screenings, which hold moisture and fail in freeze-thaw.
Surfaces are pitched at a minimum of two per cent away from the house, and where a lot is flat or drains toward the foundation, we add a catch basin, a channel drain or perforated pipe to a dry well or daylighted outlet. Edge restraint is spiked into compacted base, joints are filled with polymeric sand to full depth, and the whole surface is compacted again before sanding is completed.
Paver Patios, Walkways and Front Entrances for Mississauga Homes
Mississauga's housing stock is varied, so our designs are too. Lorne Park and Mineola feature large lots, mature trees and a mix of mid-century homes and new custom builds, which suit generous terraces in large-format slabs or natural stone, framed by layered planting and soft lighting.
Port Credit's older homes and newer infill on narrower lots call for efficient patios that combine dining and lounging in a compact footprint, often with a privacy screen and a small water feature to mask street noise. In Erin Mills, Churchill Meadows and Streetsville, family backyards need durable, low-maintenance interlock with room for a table, a barbecue zone and a path to the lawn.
Front entrances deserve special attention everywhere: a wide walkway, a landing at the door, natural stone or precast steps with integrated lighting, and a clean transition to the driveway. We work with the full premium ranges from Unilock and Techo-Bloc as well as outdoor porcelain and natural stone, and colours are chosen outdoors against your brick and roof, not from a catalogue.

Mississauga Trees, Conservation Areas and Lakefront Lots
Several local factors shape interlocking projects in Mississauga. The City regulates the removal of larger trees on private property, and many south Mississauga lots, particularly in Mineola and Lorne Park, carry mature oaks and maples whose root zones extend well beyond the canopy. We design patios and walkways around those roots using reduced-excavation details or relocated hard surfaces, and flag any removal that would need a permit before quoting.
Properties near the Credit River, Sheridan Creek, the Etobicoke Creek system or the lakeshore can fall under Credit Valley Conservation or Toronto and Region Conservation Authority regulation, where grading or construction may need approval. Lakefront and near-lake lots also see more wind-driven rain and wet springs, so drainage is designed with extra capacity.
Most at-grade patios do not require a building permit, but retaining walls above the height threshold, structures, and changes to a driveway curb cut do. We check your property's specific constraints at the site visit and design within them from day one.
Replacing Failed Interlock and Concrete Patios in Mississauga
Many of our Mississauga projects replace an existing patio rather than starting from lawn. The most common failures we see are settling next to the house where foundation backfill was never compacted, heaving and rocking pavers on a screenings bed that holds water, weeds and ants through joints that were never stabilised, efflorescence haze on concrete pavers, and old poured-concrete patios that have cracked and tilted back toward the foundation.
The fix depends on the cause. Where the pavers are still good, we lift them, rebuild the base properly with drainage and relay the same units, which saves material and keeps a matching look. Where the patio has failed structurally or the layout no longer suits how you use the yard, we remove it and start fresh with a new design.
Old concrete is broken out and hauled away, the subgrade is corrected, and the new interlock goes down on an engineered base. In every case we explain the cause before quoting, because replacing the surface without fixing the base just restarts the same failure.

Interlocking Cost in Mississauga and Booking Your Estimate
Interlocking patios in Mississauga typically range from about $10,000 for a walkway or small landing to $100,000 or more for large terraces with steps, seat walls, lighting and drainage. The main cost drivers are area, excavation depth and disposal, removal of existing concrete or interlock, access for machinery, the paver line and format, the complexity of cuts in curved or banded designs, and any integrated features.
A properly built patio is an investment that lasts thirty years or more, and because interlock is modular, a section can be lifted and reset rather than demolished if anything underneath ever needs attention. Our process removes the guesswork: a free on-site consultation, a photoreal 3D design of your actual home, then a fixed, itemized quote with every component priced separately, so nothing grows after you sign.
Our own masons build it under one project lead, and the workmanship is backed by a multi-year warranty. Call (416) 846-5893 to book your Mississauga interlocking estimate.

Interlock & Patios in Mississauga — FAQs
Most Mississauga interlock patios are installed for roughly $25 to $45 per square foot, so a typical 400 to 600 square foot backyard patio costs about $10,000 to $27,000 before steps, walls or lighting. Removing an old concrete patio, deep excavation on clay, tight access and premium large-format or natural stone push costs higher. We give a fixed, itemized quote after a free consultation and 3D design.
We build across Mississauga, most often in Lorne Park, Mineola, Port Credit, Credit Mills, Sherwood Forest, Erin Mills, Streetsville and Churchill Meadows. Our crews travel from Richmond Hill and are in Peel Region regularly throughout the season. Call (416) 846-5893 to confirm availability for your street.
Most patios take one to two weeks on site, and larger projects with steps, walls or drainage take two to three. Allow two to three weeks beforehand for the site visit, 3D design and material selection. Removing an old concrete patio usually adds a day or two for breaking out and disposal.
For most homes, yes. Concrete is cheaper to pour but rigid, so freeze-thaw and settling crack it, and repairs never match. Interlock is flexible, repairable unit by unit, available in far more styles, and lasts thirty years or more on a proper base. Concrete still makes sense for utility areas or tight budgets, and we build both, so our recommendation depends on your property and priorities.
Yes. Mature trees are common in Mineola, Lorne Park and Port Credit, and they add real value to a property. We locate root zones early and design around them using reduced excavation, permeable details or a relocated patio footprint. If a design would require removing a tree that needs a City permit, we tell you before quoting so the decision is yours, made with full information.
