Add missing edge restraint and the outer courses spread, joints open, and weeds take hold. It is not a paver problem — the units are usually still perfectly good. It is a base problem, which is why we excavate deeper, separate the soil with fabric, and compact in lifts.
Often yes, and it can save meaningful money. If the units are sound, not spalling, and you still like the colour, we can lift them carefully, palletise them, rebuild the base properly underneath with excavation, geotextile and compacted granular, then relay your original pavers with new edge restraint and polymeric sand. Expect to lose 5 to 10 percent to breakage and cuts, so having a few spares helps. Where the pavers are 1990s thin units, badly faded or already crumbling at the edges, reusing them is false economy and we will say so.
Very little, but not nothing. Sweep and rinse it once a season, and pressure wash gently at low pressure and a wide fan if you must, keeping the nozzle away from joints. Top up polymeric sand every three to five years as it naturally wears from the joints, which is what keeps weeds and ants out. Clear leaves out of drains and low corners before winter so meltwater has somewhere to go. Use plastic shovels rather than metal, and avoid rock salt on newer installations — sand or a paver-safe de-icer instead. That is the whole routine, and it protects a 25-year-plus surface.
